The School Mental Health Project/Center for Mental Health in Schools (UCLA) is a nationwide reform movement that aims to address barriers to learning and recommend comprehensive, unified services to children who are underachieving in our nation’s schools. John is a retired member of the Pennsylvania delegation, but continues to support its efforts.

The Kid Angel Foundation, which provides supplemental education services to children who are functioning one or more years below grade level. John is Board Advisor of the Foundation.

John is a one of the educational consultants working with The Center for Innovative Education Solutions.

The prime suspect in Condemned to Freedom, Brian “Doc” Randori, is a practitioner of Moo Duk Kwan. In real life, John is a black belt in the Korean martial art.

William Glasser is a psychiatrist who developed Reality Therapy and its outgrowth, Choice Theory, which provided the philosophical underpinnings for behavioral approaches of the two alternative school programs John worked to initiate and implement. Any enduring alternative school today owes a debt of gratitude to Dr. Glasser.

Viktor Frankl’s book, Man’s Search for Meaning, provides a history of this amazing psychiatrist, who survived Nazi death camps, although he lost most of his family. Out of that experience, Frankl honed his therapeutic philosophy and processes, which he calls logotherapy. John used this approach with some measure of success with teenage heroin addicts.
